6 ARCHITECTURAL WONDERS OF BUDAPEST

“I DON’T KNOW THE QUESTION, BUT TRAVEL IS DEFINITELY THE ANSWER”

Budapest was everything I could have hoped for and more! It quickly became one of my favourite cities in Europe with its stunning architecture and gorgeous food. I found the more I learned about the complex history of Budapest, the more I came to appreciate just how wonderful this city is.

Day 13 (9)

I was completely in awe of Budapest’s magnificent architecture. If Budapest is your next travel destination, be sure to get up and close to these 6 incredible architectural wonders!

1. HUNGARIAN PARLIAMENT BUILDING

Also known as the parliament for Budapest, this structure is one of Europe’s oldest legislative buildings, a landmark of the city and a popular tourist destination for those visiting Hungary.

Not only is the Parliament Building a site to behold during the day, but of a night, the entire building transforms into an equally spectacular landmark. I definitely recommend a dinner cruise down the Danube river as away to experience it.

2. ST. STEPHEN’S BASILICA

This Roman Catholic basilica was named after the first King of Hungary. It is the third largest church building in Hungary and houses the biggest bell in the countryweighing 9,250KG!

3. CHAIN BRIDGE

This world famous suspension bridge is built across the River Danube linking Buda and Pest, the western and eastern sides of Budapest. The Szechenyi Lanchid has become an icon since it was built in 1849 igniting the economic revival of Hungary which led to the Budapest’s ‘golden century’.

4. BUDA CASTLE

First completed in 1265, the Buda Castle is a historical landmark and castle for the Hungarian Kings in Budapest. The castle is part of Budapest’s World Heritage Site and sits atop Castle Hill in the Castle District (go figure).

5. FISHERMAN’S BASTION & MATTHIAS CHURCH

Matthias Church is a Roman Catholic church, in front of the Fisherman’s Bastion at the heart of Buda’s Castle District. Not only are they both architecturally exquisite, there are also fantastic views of the city from here – it is well worth heading up there to check it out!

6. SZECHENYI THERMAL BATH

The largest medicinal bath in Europe is housed in Budapest, Hungary. It is a great place to relax after a full day of exploring the city and is yet another incredible piece of architecture.
